We’re entering the home stretch of our series on discovering your signature style.  We have only a couple more steps to go before all of our readers can start snapping away and sharing their signature style with us!

This week, we’re all about the accessory.  Accessories are a really simple, easy way to upgrade any outfit.  Think Jackie O and her pearls, pillbox and oversized sunglasses.  Nicole Richie and her indie headbands and bangles.  Or Lady Gaga and her wild headpieces.  The right accessory can make the simplest of outfits look funky, fun, elegant or classy.

A variety of accessories including rings, necklaces, belts, scarves, earrings and bracelets.

This week’s assignment is super easy.  Remember all those outfits you pulled out of your closet (or went out and bought) to dress-up in?  Well, if you didn’t already, I want you to accessorize them.  And then, accessorize the same outfit a different way.

There are so many accessories that can be added to any outfit.  Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, belts, hats, scarves, bags, glasses (sun or empty frames/hipster style), headbands, flowers, gloves, ties . . . you get the idea.  If the idea seems crazy, try it anyway.  How else will you know if a hot pink dress really matches a leopard belt (it does as long as you pair it with a neutral shoe – like brown or nude) or if a teal maxi dress will work with a tangerine cardigan (yup!)?  Don’t usually wear scarves?  Grab one from your mother or grandmother’s closet and tie it a bunch of different ways.  Not a hat girl?  Snatch that fedora out of the back of your boyfriend’s closet and make it work for you.

A simple scarf can add oomph to any outfit.
A vintage scarf adds instant chic to a plain black turtleneck.

Well, you’ve got your marching orders.  Share with us what worked for you.  And what didn’t.

And, if you’ve been following each step of the “Discovering Your Signature Style” journey, snap a few pics and email (yourchicisshowing@gmail.com), tweet (www.twitter.com/urchicisshowing) or tag us on instagram (@yourchicisshowing) so we can see what you’re doing.  After all, it’s not just my chic that’s showing.  It’s all of ours!!

  1. I never got into accessories. The most I wear is a watch and earrings. I’ve only recently gotten into scarves and now I love them! This part will take a lot of work on my end. I hate necklaces, bracelets take too long to put on, and the only ring I’ll ever wear is after I’m married (aaaaand that won’t be anytime soon). We’ll see what I come up with 🙂

    1. Ha ha. Well start small. Scarves are a great and versatile accessory! You can dress something up or go super casual. You can build from there. Maybe, instead of bangles you try a chunky bracelet or a charm bracelet. And rings are a great way to make a statement and are often the only accessory you need. Try one on your pointer or middle finger. And, if you don’t want to commit to an expensive one then head over to Claire’s, icing or Target and cop one for $5-10. A cheap investment and you might find you like it!

Also, since you rock your hair natural try headbands, flowers, etc. I always think women with natural hair always do up their hair in so many creative ways. For the summer I am loving a big flower in the hair!
